About Simon

Simon began counseling students while teaching English Language, Literature and Rhetoric for the University Of Maryland in the mid 80’s. He found this informal work to be effective in improving students’ performance, often more effective than teaching, which obviously caught his attention. Simon read extensively including the work of Carl Rogers and Sigmund Freud. He continued to work informally with students until the late 80’s when he made the decision to train as a therapist. After researching the 90+ trainings of various kinds available in London at that time Simon chose a comprehensive training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and began practicing in Highgate London in 1990 and in Woodbridge Suffolk in 1991.

In the mid 90’s Simon pursued his interest in Psychoanalysis by taking some further training with Professor Ian Craib at the University of Essex

At the same time Simon began thinking about combining his interest in the internet and email as a great new way to communicate, with his love of writing and reading and his practice of therapy.

In 1995 this thinking culminated in Simon building his first web site and offering therapy by email. Simon was to discover sometime later that he was in fact the first person to offer such a service.

The success of this new way of practicing was no doubt partly due to Simon’s years of experience of reading and writing as a teacher of language, literature and rhetoric.

Simon has thousands of hours’ experience as a successful email therapist and has received many testimonials from his clients.

Simon is a Member-At-Large and member of the executive committee of the International Society for Mental Health Online.
