How It Works
E-Mail therapy is similar to conventional therapy. Instead of meeting with your therapist to talk over situations, you and your therapist communicate by e-mail. This method has advantages. You do not have to travel, meet face to face, or even synchronize. You may work at your pace, in your place and at your preferred time. You have as much time as you want to reflect on what you are writing and the responses you receive. You also have a complete record of your exchanges that you can refer back to at any time.
After submitting your initial inquiry Simon will respond with an acknowledgement and a counseling contract for you to look at. This might seem a little formal, but we have to have a clear contract and boundaries in order to comply with recognized codes of ethics and practice. Provided the contract is acceptable to you, once you have made an initial payment, therapy can begin and Simon will send you an email asking you to outline your situation or problem in more detail.
You may then contact Simon, sending an e-mail of up to 2000 words outlining your situation. Your counselor will normally respond within five days acknowledging your communication and typically asking you to communicate further on specific aspects. This weekly exchange will continue for the agreed period and then the situation will be reviewed between you and Simon and a decision reached as to whether to end there or continue for a further period.
